From January 2021, a new packaging ordinance will be taken in place in Sweden. This requires the "Manufacturer" of packaging to join an approved collection system or create its own approved collection system.
It is a requirement to register your company with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and describe how you intend to meet the requirements for the collection of packaging materials. The "producer" of the packaging is considered to be the product that fills the product in the packaging or the one that imports an already packed product to Sweden. That is why the "Producer" must report the amount of packaging sold in Sweden to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency every year no later than the last of March, in case of delayed reporting a fee of SEK 10,000 is charged.
The regulation also stipulates that the amount of packaging waste must be reduced, volume and weight limited and packaging used where necessary. The harmfulness to the environment of materials and substances in packaging must be limited. This means removing unnecessary packaging, designing it for recycling, labeling it clearly; PAP-20 for corrugated cardboard, PAP-21 for other cardboard, PAP-22 for paper, PAP-81 if it contains plastic.
