The regulation imposes new requirements on packaging and stakeholders throughout the value chain. For FrontPac, this marks a significant milestone, though it is not the beginning of our work regarding the PPWR. We continuously monitor developments and track the clarifications published by the EU and national authorities. This enables us to stay up to date and put the requirements into practice.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3538640 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3538640\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What is PPWR?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-12853a6 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"12853a6\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-953c588 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"953c588\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">PPWR stands for <em>Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation<\/em> and is the EU\u2019s new regulation on packaging and packaging waste. The regulation contains requirements aimed at reducing the amount of packaging waste and promoting a more circular approach to packaging.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">August 12, 2026, therefore marks an important milestone. However, not all requirements under the PPWR will come into effect at the same time. Instead, the EU is introducing the requirements in stages, with additional requirements and methods to follow in the coming years.<\/p><p>For companies working with packaging, it is therefore important to comply with both the regulation and the clarifications published by the EU and national authorities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b7a33b1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b7a33b1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Who is responsible under the PPWR?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6d47cac e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"6d47cac\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d05929f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d05929f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A key issue in the PPWR is who is responsible for the packaging.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The regulation does not determine the manufacturer's role solely based on who physically produces the packaging. Instead, it is necessary to assess each actor's actual role and the circumstances within the supply chain.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For example, this could involve:<\/p><ul data-spread=\"false\"><li>How the company develops the packaging<\/li><li>Under which name or brand the company provides the packaging<\/li><li>The roles of the various actors in the supply chain<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Therefore, a PPWR assessment begins by clarifying the role each party actually has under the regulation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-80db706 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"80db706\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What needs to be demonstrated and documented?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fb57c5b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"fb57c5b\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b5a808a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b5a808a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The PPWR requires documentation demonstrating that the packaging complies with the applicable requirements.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">A distinction is made here between technical documentation and the EU Declaration of Conformity. They serve different functions in the process.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The technical documentation serves as the basis for assessing whether the packaging meets the applicable requirements. The company prepares the documentation as part of the conformity assessment before placing the packaging on the market.<\/p><p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">At the same time, the right information needs to be available throughout the supply chain. Suppliers therefore need to be able to provide the information and documentation required by the manufacturer to demonstrate that the packaging meets the requirements.<\/p><p>PPWR compliance is therefore not based on a single document. It requires the right information, traceability, and the ability to verify the data throughout the entire supply chain.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8062992 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8062992\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How is the packaging linked to the correct documentation?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4186d39 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"4186d39\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a922ac3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a922ac3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The PPWR requires companies to be able to identify packaging. However, this does not mean that every single item of packaging must be assigned a unique serial number. The regulation allows for identification via type, batch, or serial numbers, among other methods, or through other forms of identification that enable the packaging to be linked to relevant documentation.<\/p><p>In practice, the identification helps the company ensure that it can link the correct packaging to the correct information and documentation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-37e1433 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"37e1433\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What does the PPWR mean for the packaging industry?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7668579 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"7668579\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e7719a8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e7719a8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The PPWR affects various stakeholders in the packaging value chain.
