Have you ever balanced a container of pizza salad on top of a pizza box, hoping it would stay in place all the way home? If so, you’re likely familiar with the problem. Containers of pizza salad and sauce slide around easily, risking a fall onto the floor or leaving a mess on the car seat. Nu finns en ny pizzaförpackning med hållare för burkarna som ska lösa just det problemet. Bakom idén står Jerker Karlgren och Alexander Vångdahl. FrontPac har bidragit med produktionsexpertis och tillverkat den första testserien.
A pizza packaging that keeps the salad in place
The solution is based on four punched-out holes in the lid of the pizza box. When you press down the punched-out sections of the box, they form holders for containers - for instance, for pizza salad or sauce.
This allows you to place the containers on top of the pizza box without them sliding around as easily during transport. Furthermore, the pressed-down sections of the cardboard remain in place within the packaging.
The design also features small flaps that fold out when you assemble the box. These form legs that make it easier to stack multiple boxes. At the same time, the flaps create ventilation openings that allow moisture from the hot pizza to escape.
From idea to finished pizza packaging
Jerker Karlgren got the idea after growing tired of containers sliding around on the pizza box. Together with Alexander Vångdahl, he then developed the solution by testing and refining the design.
During the work, they realized that several factors influence the result. For instance, the placement of the holes must take into account the fiber direction of the cardboard and the strength of the packaging.
This is where FrontPac came into the picture. We provided advice on the design and produced the initial test run. This allowed the concept to progress from handmade prototypes to a series of packages that could be tested in a real-world setting.
We are proud to contribute to the development of an idea that solves a concrete, everyday problem. Our role is to provide expertise regarding materials, design, and production - while the innovation itself, as mentioned, comes from Jerker Karlgren and Alexander Vångdahl.
We want more ideas to become reality
Innovation does not always have to involve major changes. Sometimes it begins with a simple question: is it possible to solve an everyday problem in a better way?
At FrontPac, we enjoy collaborating with people and companies that want to develop new packaging solutions. With the right production expertise, we can help bring ideas to life and prepare them for the next step.
The new pizza packaging demonstrates how a well-thought-out design can make a difference in a familiar situation. After all, who really wants to have to catch a falling container of pizza salad while carrying a pizza home?
