Packaging for games – why the construction is at least as important as the design

Game packaging does far more than just look good. It protects the contents, keeps all the game components organized, and must withstand repeated use. That is why game packaging requires well-thought-out construction, high precision, and a design that enhances the gaming experience even before the lid is opened.

The packaging construction is the foundation.

Board games and card games bring families and friends together around the gaming table, and have done so for generations. At the same time, they place high demands on the packaging. Unlike many other consumer products, the game box is not used solely at the time of purchase - it is opened, closed, transported, and used over many years.

That is why truly great game packaging begins with the right design. The box must protect the contents, retain its shape, and convey a sense of quality every time the game is taken out.

A well-thought-out interior makes a big difference.

Many games contain cards, tokens, dice, boards, and other components. Without a well-designed insert, the parts risk shifting around, getting damaged, or creating a mess.

A custom-fitted insert keeps every component in place, makes the game easier to unpack, and contributes to a better user experience. At the same time, this type of solution requires high precision throughout the manufacturing process to ensure all parts fit perfectly.

Design that sparks interest

Once the structure works, it is time for the design. Colors, graphics, and surface finishes help the game stand out on the store shelf and provide a clear picture of the contents even before the lid is opened.

One project we are proud of is the 0-100 game series from MIG. For this project, we produced packaging in which the structural design, internal layout, and graphic design work together to create a durable and user-friendly solution. The result is a game box that both presents the game attractively and keeps the contents organized.

At FrontPac, we develop and manufacture game packaging and other packaging solutions made from carton and corrugated board, with a focus on precision, functionality, and quality. Whether you are developing a family game, a card game, or a board game, we help you find a solution that works- from the initial sketch to the finished package.
